Learn By Serving

Everywhere we look there are opportunities to serve others. Active young members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints look forward to serving two years as missionaries, often called “the best two years.” What is the larger struggle of which the mission is only part? What happens when that mission experience is cut short?

Our small group of teenagers looked forward to going on missions when we turned 19. We would go anywhere, of course, but couldn’t help dreaming where in the world the Lord might send us; influenced by slide shows of recently returned missionaries, we all agreed Austria would be best. I was the only one of us to go there. I still think Salzburg is the most beautiful city in the world. Imagine my grief at having to go home early.
